Tour Description

Our route takes us via the Sma Glen to Aberfeldy, in August and early September when the Heather is in bloom this is a spectacular drive. We will have a stop in Aberfeldy allowing time for a coffee and a browse around this small highland town, alternatively you can visit ‘Dewars World of Whisky’ for a tour of the distillery and a wee dram.

We then travel along the shores of Loch Tay viewing a number of interesting sites including the standing stones of Croftmoraig and the Loch Tay Crannog (Iron age lake house). We then visit the picturesque village of Fortingall with its thatched roof cottages, this is the alleged birthplace of Pontius Pilot and within the churchyard can be found the oldest tree in Europe.

On reaching Killin at the west end of Loch Tay we stop in the village to see the Falls of Dochart and from here we head South returning via Glen Dochart, Glen Ogle and Loch Lubnaig.

This is a favourite tour of mine, it has many interesting  historic sites, picturesque villages, wonderful scenery, and even in the height of the tourist season it is normally quiet and peaceful. If the weather is nice we can have a picnic lunch by the Lochside if you wish.

Dear Derek,

I continue to receive thanks from my friends who joined us on the customized ‘Highland Glens Tour’ we took with you this August. I am so glad I found your tour info on the internet. For most of us it was the third small bus tour we had experienced in Scotland and yours was by far the best. Not only did you take us to places that were more scenic but they were also not crowded. Your knowledge of Scotland’s history is truly amazing. To top it off you are a safe driver! Thanks again and I hope to see you on our next trip to Scotland in a few years.
