Private Tours Scotland from Edinburgh to Jedburgh Abbey Scottish Borders

Tour Description

A day in the Scottish border country visiting the Abbeys of Melrose, Dryburgh and Jedburgh, although they were badly damaged in the border wars with England they are still fine examples of Ecclesiastic Architecture.

Other options on this tour could include Rosslyn Chapel, Sir Walter Scott’s home at ‘Abbotsford’ or the magnificent ‘Floors Castle,’ the home of the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe. Or you may prefer to browse around the nice small towns and villages in the area. The choice is yours.

The Scottish Borders is an area of green rolling hills and picturesque villages. The great border abbeys were built during a period of medieval renaissance in the 12th century when this area flourished during the reign of King David 1st. This peaceful period ended when King Alexander 3rd died in 1286 and thus began a period of war with England that devastated the border area. This vicious and destructive period raged for centuries with cross border raids and blackmail commonplace all over the disputed border area.

The story of the borders people and their fight for survival has always been at the heart of their strong literary heritage. James Hogg and Sir Walter Scott through their novels and poetry put the borders on the map as a beautiful and romantic place to visit.

Derek,

We wanted to thank you again for the delightful day with you and the wonderful start to our Scotland visit. We appreciated the opportunity to walk where our ancestors walked, and see just what we wanted to see in the Borders.
